Living in Yemen

Yemen sits near the bottom of the global pay range, and there is little in the wider picture to soften that. English barely carries in working life, and landing a job without established local ties is hard for an outsider to manage. For a mid-career professional weighing a move, it reads less as an opportunity than as a place whose working economy offers very little to build on from outside.

Yemen's diaspora is anchored in one place: of about 2.5M Yemenis living abroad, roughly 2M are in Saudi Arabia, dwarfing the United Arab Emirates and Kuwait. That diaspora far outnumbers the foreign-born population at home, and the number living abroad has grown 14% over the past decade.
