Living in Turkey

Turkey pays around the middle of what the world offers, and while tax takes a real share, you keep the larger part of it. The harder pressure is the cost of living, which runs high enough that even a steady salary leaves only a thin margin once the essentials are paid. Breaking in without a local network is tough, though English carries further in IT and in hospitality and tourism than across the rest of the economy. It is a place where you can work comfortably enough without finding much room to get ahead.

Türkiye has become one of the world's major destinations: about 6.8M foreign-born residents live there, the world's 11th-largest immigrant population, and that count has grown 87% over the past decade. Arrivals are dominated by Syria, which accounts for roughly 3.6M following the war next door, with Iraq and Germany far behind. The inflow makes Türkiye a clear net receiver, even as its own 3.1M-strong diaspora — led by Germany — remains substantial.
