Living in the Comoros

The Comoros is a small island economy, and that shapes the math of living there. Pay is low and tax takes almost nothing, but with so much brought in from elsewhere, daily costs eat up most of a salary and leave little to set aside. For a newcomer the way in is narrow, with work tending to stay within established circles and English doing little of the talking.

The Comoros diaspora overwhelmingly settles in one country. Of 367.6K Comorians abroad, 231.8K live in France, with the neighboring island of Mayotte (111.5K) the only other large community. The diaspora nearly doubled, growing 95% over the past decade.
